* The Bottom Line...
***************************************************
Microsoft warns on July 30 that several new vulnerabilities that
could allow an attacker to take complete control of your PC
remotely, install or remove programs, access to all files, and
a few more nasty things, has been addressed in an "out of cycle"
(not the monthly patch day) "emergency patch". All users should
install this cumulative patch immediately and then reboot their
systems.
***************************************************
* What You Should Do
***************************************************
Download the emergency patch and install it ASAP at:
Microsoft Technet MS04-025
Be sure to get the correct version for your version of
Windows (98, 2000, XP AND what Service Pack you have)
and for the version of Internet Explorer you have.
To find out what version of IE you have, start IE, then click
on "Help" and "About Internet Explorer". You will see the IE
version and a few lines below that you will see what security
updates or hotfixes are installed.
