Protect your identity and your computer with VACM-approved "Stuff That Works"

Greetings from The VACM Team,

Hoax of the day... and a worm, to boot...

The Bottom Line
----------------------------
If you get an email warning you to delete all .ZIP files
from your system, don't.  Just delete the email.

This supposed "helpful" message is about a worm called
"Choke Worm".  The "Choke Worm" is indeed a worm.  It only
spreads via MSN Messenger.  It has no destructive payload.
It will not trash all the .ZIP files on your system.

If You Actually Got Infected By CHOKE WORM...
------------------------------------------------
The Choke worm arrives via MSN Messenger as an .EXE file.
It does not mess with any ZIP files on your system and there
is absolutely no need for anyone to delete all the .ZIP files
on their systems.

If you use MSN Messenger, and you double-clicked on the .EXE file,
you probably did get infected.  The .EXE files are usually one
of the following:

ShootPresidentBUSH.exe,
Choke.exe,
Hotmail.exe,
or a filename using the sender's name with an .exe extension.

Basically, ANY .exe file received via MSN Messenger should be
considered infected until proven otherwise.

What You Should Do...
---------------------------
Update your antivirus software and do a full scan or your
system and let your antivirus software do the cleanup.

You can ignore the rest of this message unless you want a little
more detail on Choke Worm....

Additional Info...
---------------------------
Choke Worm sends itself to all your MSN Messenger contacts
with the following message:

"President bush shooter is game that allows you to
shoot Bush balzz hahaha"

Again, the worm has no malicious payload. It simply sends itself to
others via the MSN Messenger service.

Depending on which antivirus software you use, the Choke Worm might
also be referred to as "Psychopatt".

This is the second such worm to spread itself
via Microsoft's MSN Messenger program.

The first such worm was sent as an attachment named Hello.exe with
the message:

"I have a file for u. Its real funny"

******** APPENDIX - Handy How-To Tips **********

  * How To Boot into Safe Mode

Shut the computer down so that the power is off.

Turn the computer on, wait 1 second and begin pressing the F8 key
on the keyboard, once every second repeatedly. Do this until
the Windows Startup Menu appears. If you get a keyboard
error, press F1 to resume and then continue pressing the
F8 key once every second, or your PC may tell you to press another key for BIOS setup.

Select Safe Mode from the Windows Startup Menu, then press
the Enter key on the keyboard.

Windows will then boot into Safe Mode.
NOTE: This may take longer than a normal boot.

At the end of the boot process a dialog box will appear
informing you that Windows is in Safe Mode. Click OK on this dialog box.

Windows is now in Safe Mode.

If you miss hitting the F8 at the right time, Windows will boot
normally and you will not see the "Safe Mode" message.  In this
case, start from the top of these instructions until you get the
boot menu screen where you can choose "Safe Mode".  This can be
a little tricky the first time you do it.
